CHAPTER ELEVEN

Calix parked his bike in the driveway of Slater and Emmie’s house.

Yesterday, his dad had agreed to produce Blue Fire’s album. So he’d called a brief meeting this morning to talk about his plans. Since work wouldn’t start until contracts came in, Emmie was on her way into the city right then to take care of it.

Voices in the backyard tore him out of his thoughts.

The band stood around the table, backs to him, as they ate the breakfast Mimi had set out on this warm, sunny day. All kinds of baked goods, a couple carafes of coffee, some jugs of orange juice, and tableware covered a folding table.
